A$AP Rocky charged in shooting...
Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced on Aug. 15 that his office has filed charges against the rap artist known as A$AP Rocky for an alleged assault with a firearm against a former friend last November in Hollywood.
“Discharging a gun in a public place is a serious offense that could have ended with tragic consequences not only for the person targeted but also for innocent bystanders visiting Hollywood,” Gascón said. “My office conducted a thorough review of the evidence in this case and determined that the addition of a special firearm allegation was warranted.”
The artist, whose legal name is Rakim Mayers, faces two counts of assault with a firearm, with the special allegation of personally using a firearm.
Prosecutors allege on Nov. 6, 2021, Mayers pointed a semiautomatic handgun at the victim during an argument near Selma and Argyle avenues in Hollywood. Mayers allegedly fired twice in the direction of the victim, prosecutors said.
The victim has been identified in media reports as Terell Ephron, a former associate of the defendant.
The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division. Anyone with information is urged to call investigators at (213)486-6840.
